Harris Poll: Most Americans eat out, but not as much as before
ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 8 () -- Most Americans dine out every month, but a Harris Poll indicates many have cut back recently.A Harris Interactive survey found 64 percent of U.S. adults say they ate at a fast-food restaurant chain in the past month, 54 percent at a local casual dining establishment, 18 percent at a local fine dining restaurant and 9 percent at a fine dining restaurant chain.Just 10 percent said they didn't eat out in any of these types of restaurants in the past month. It might not come as a surprise 73 percent of households with children age 18 and under ate at a fast-food restaurant, but 13 percent said those with children age 18 and under visited a fine dining restaurant chain. Even though most people said they eat out at least once a month, Americans appear to be cutting back. When asked whether they have eaten out more or less frequently in the past six months -- "less frequently" responses consistently outpaced "more frequently:"-- 26 percent said they ate less at fast-food restaurant chains, while 14 percent said more. -- 20 percent said they ate less at local casual dining restaurants,Gucci Pas Cher, while 14 percent said more. -- 24 percent said they ate at a casual dining restaurant chain, while 11 percent said more. -- 21 percent said they ate at a local fine dining restaurant, while 7 percent more. -- 23 percent said they ate fine dining restaurant chain, while 4 percent more. The Harris Poll of 2,496 U.S. adults was conducted Feb. 13-18 by Harris Interactive. No margin of error was provided.
