The municipality of Los Cabos is located at the southern most tip of Baja California peninsula in Mexico, and is most [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] famous for its neighbour Cabo San Lucas. Los Cabos International Airport is the seventh busiest airport in Mexico, and the only major airport on the Baja California peninsula. The airport serves the entire peninsula, as well as provides a jumping off point for flights from Mexico to Hawaii and Asia.
Los Cabos encompasses the sleepy little town of San Jose del Cabo and the not-so-sleepy little city of Cabo [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] San [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Lucas. Since the early 1980's Cabo San Lucas has received a lot [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of tourist [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] traffic from all over North America, particularly the US. In fact, the busiest route out of Los Cabos International goes to Los Angeles, California. After that is Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and San Diego. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Cabo San Lucas has the unique qualities of being located on the shores of a sheltered bay on the Gulf of California, sheltered from the Pacific Ocean that happens to be just around the corner of the peninsula. With all the natural beauty of the entire municipality [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of Los Cabos, it is no surprise that it's only international airport is [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] bursting at the seams on a daily basis.
According to the airport's statistics, Los Cabos International served 2.8 million passengers in 2011, a 2.2% increase over the previous year. In fact, there have been steady increases in traffic over the years, to the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] point where the infrastructure has become very inadequate. Aircraft are constantly competing for space on the tarmac during peak hours, and wait times can be lengthy. There are currently four terminals at Los Cabos International, although terminal four is still under construction and due to be finished in 2012. When the fourth terminal is completed, Los Cabos International will have 34 gates.
There are 24 airlines that fly in and out of Los Cabos International on a regular basis, with one Asian airline going to and from Shanghai from September 2011 to January 2012. This is a passenger airport, which basically means there are no cargo flights coming [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] in and out of Los Cabos. As the only major international airport on Baja California Sur, the lack of cargo seems a little odd. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] However, in all likelihood it is probably due to space limitations. When terminal four is completed, perhaps cargo airlines will begin frequenting Los Cabos International Airport as well.
