and let security be worried about marksmanship
Define Political Irony. A Political Party that spent 1 . 5 years demonizing Teachers, because some fit in with a Union. Giving them a call unfit, inept, lazy and never deserving annually long pay check for 9months price of incompetent work. Then Sandy Hook happens,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], now Teaches would be the brightest, well educated and protectors in our children and should be armed for their and our children's safety.
And so i have to ask the GOP this. Who deliberately arms a section in our population, you say as unfit, inept and incompetent, with hand guns. Saying it is not just wise but safe to do so?
Lots of high schools and middle schools round the country have assigned cops. They provide security and often class room support. The officer inside my daughter's senior high school would be a positive influence and highly regarded through the kids and staff. I'm not sure when the assigned officers are armed or not, however i don't have to know. If anyone should be armed my first choice will be a trained,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], professional police officer. Clearly assigning a police officer to each primary school is pricey and I do not know the things they would do most of the time. As the principal said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], let teachers focus on teaching and security focus on marksmanship.
By police officer I am talking about just that, not some wanna be private security officer.
For whose sake,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exactly, would we be providing those security patrols? Would it be such as the TSA, that has provided a military of jobs but every now and then "misses" a weapon in someone's carry-on? And that we take our shoes off dealing with security, why? One guy had explosives in the shoes. Couldn't they simply as quickly be in his hat or her hairband the next time?
My point is the fact that security is definitely an illusion. It's that same illusion which makes a gun owner feel he's secure by having a gun in the home. Hopefully, he's responsible about safety, and also the gun is unloaded,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with ammunition inside a separate place,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and all sorts of are under lock and key. When there's that home invasion that he's so afraid of, do you consider he's going to get everything together before he's dead?
Putting armed guards in our schools may seem just like a wise decision,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and parents may rest easier knowing they're there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the likelihood of a guard being in the right place at the proper time, able to draw his gun before he's killed after which moving away from a killing or disabling shot beyond the intruder's body armor is kind of unlikely. At least, I think so.
We had school resource officers during my senior high school, it had been a given,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they were actual cops, which is at 96, well before Colombine and the spate of school shootings. I believe the middle schools in the area had them too. My senior high school was in quite a crime ridden area and was a gated closed campus. I never felt unsafe. I actually do think if we had educators with pistols armed and loaded mounted on their hips, it would have been just the opposite.

If we are to visit down this path, it should be by placing an armed officer at every school whenever there are children scheduled to become for the reason -- during class hours,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while sports teams are practicing or playing, etc.
Now you ask ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the way we pay it off? Salary and support for a police officer is roughly equivalent to two full time teachers, there are A LOT of schools. Raise the uppermost income tax rate by 0.1%? Increase the capital gains tax? Cancel a handful of the latest super-pork fighter jets? Close military bases in San Diego and sell from the land to the highest bidder?
Wouldn't it be cheaper to get rid of long guns having a magazine capacity more than 4?
Prepare for the Big Canard in the NRA this Friday, the "Mental Health" canard. They'll argue that guns don't kill people, crazy individuals who should be locked up do. Obviously they're not going to provide funding or objective and relevant guidelines, since it is likely to be a smokescreen to divert. It's exactly the same as the canard about "securing the border" before comprehensive immigration reform. Anytime you need a weather vane or dipstick into Republican thinking, just ask Marco Rubio. The dude is one talking point after another having a vacant intellect.

Because so many of those mass killers end up killing themselves, we have to figure how to eliminate the senseless killings before the suicide. Perhaps legalizing pot will soothe some of these people's demons but that is quite a distance off. Having some questionnaire about suicide before licensing a weapon will only get the honest person and would be no predictor of the next response to a personal crisis. The rise in these killings seems to have risen since the draft was eliminated but maybe the reporting is just more widespread. We're able to try to determine where the rage and hopelessness comes from (Fox News), (militant hateful televangelists) or insufficient meaningful education and emotional support. We're able to legislate that semiautomatic weapons have a special very costly bullet and multi-round clips are even more expensive. Bottom line, plenty of brainstorming needs to be done it doesn't matter what the NRA says and publish all the damn gun violence statistics so people can make an educated decision.

Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I heard the segment in last night's show where Rachel revealed that the NRA has effectively muzzled the press about gun death statistics. A free press, probably a lot more than any law or program or bureaucracy, is crucial for this country. As Thomas Jefferson said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],
