Students Can Get Max Pell Grant in 2011
I think that the purpose of the Pell Grant is great. I'm personally buried in student loans because I didn't qualify for financial aid because my parents "make too much". Unfortunately my parents also wouldn't pay for my college so I was basically screwed and had to take out private loans. Now onto the problems with the Pell Grant program. I knew multiple friends who received this assistance and I will concede that a few of them used their money wisely. However the rest I knew of weren't use to that amount of unregulated wealth in their accounts. Most bought cars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sneakers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stereos, flat screen TVs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], alcohol…. The list goes on. I think that our tax money given to these people should at least be regulated.
The government talks about how the children are our future, leaders of tomorrow and how important it is for our children to acquire a quality education. However, it does appears we are negating on this same premise and this sounds like government as usual. The added stress of financing an education takes away from the needed brain cells to concentrate in the learning process,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], worring about how you intend to pay for the upcoming expenses are a burden,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which a student does not need during the active phase of acquiring an education at the college level and not to mention the fact becoming gainfully employed in order to repay the loans.
I think the solution to the many students who are now in default is a direct result of not being able to acquire a job to repay these loans. The babyboomers are educated people and with all due respect would like to see the younger generation progress as well if we are to have qualified leaders of tomorrow,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
This is to the person who wrote "pathetic". Who do you think you are? Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I am seeing very bad English here too, but these people with poor writing skills are doi- ng everything they can to better themselves. Not everybody has the kind of background that allows for a solid education which affords them the basics and fundamentals they need. So what if they need remedial classes? Does that make them unworthy of a college education? I bet these people you are talking about will go on to be much more successful and fulfilled than you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and furthermore they, and all of the other undereducated people who achieve their dreams will have much more to offer society than you. I recieve pell grants, and I am a high school dropout. I have a GED, and a felony record. And guess what? I am a straight A Honors student,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and when I get my degree in secondary education I will do every thing I can to help struggling students. You are pathetic.
Why am I paying for the college education of the pathetic persons who have commented on this site? Their English is so poor that they should be taking remedial English and not going to college until they can satisfactorily pass a basic English exam.
Liberals have dumbed down our education system so badly, that a college degree is only comparable to a high school education of 25 years ago. And the working people are paying for this educational K-College travesty.
In addition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you go to a state funded school, most anyone can afford to do it without my $$$$. I did and my kids did too. Get a job and get off the dole.
I am glad that Pell has escaped the chopping block for the time being. I am not sure what that means for summer 2011 though,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I had read in an article elsewhere that Pell for summer 2011 would be funded under the 2010/2011 provisions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I am not sure how to verify if that is true, other than to go up to the school that is.
The Pell grant has done a lot for me, I completed an AAS this past December, I will test for certification this summer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and should be all set to transfer to a four year institution to pursue a BS this coming spring. Honestly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it wouldn't happen were it not for Pell. Right now my objective is just to get done and to place where my boys won't need so much Pell if any at all. But even,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if they do. They should be the last generation in my family that ever will.
