Tucked deep within the Royal Botanic Gardens,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unknown to most dog walkers, joggers and picnickers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a group of self-confessed tango addicts has taken to hijacking a pavilion near Gate C.
They are inconspicuous until they swap their sensible Birkenstocks and sneakers for sexy, swanky dance pumps. And it would be easy to miss the music,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which sounds like it is straight from an Argentinian bar,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but is turned up just loud enough to set the rhythm.
"I like the feeling that it's enclosed in a secret space. You can only see it when you walk past," said Jarny Choi, a 36-year-old IT worker, who started the intermittent Sunday afternoon gathering in January.
The Tecoma Rotunda seems a bit too salubrious a venue for a dance born in the brothels of Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
But the loose, nameless group, which has been meeting in various venues for a few years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], loves the novelty of dancing in the daytime. Though one suspects they would dance anytime.
"It's like a language so that the steps are words and there's a syntax you create with your body,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said 24-year-old Martin Renaud, a French Canadian who dances "obsessively and devotionally".
According to Mr Choi,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], tango dancers spend their lives pursuing the sensation of making a special connection with their partner.
"You are searching for it always. During the whole night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you might have one dance and that's the highlight . . . it gets you so hooked, it's such an addictive feeling," Mr Choi said.
