A special day for everything means that nothing is special
Am I alone in thinking that there is a special day for almost anything,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]? Who denotes such things,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]? Is there a secret society out there that simply slides under the world's door an envelope containing this week's winner,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
A few of us sitting around our club the other afternoon were discussing exactly this and trying to keep our tempers. I mean there is a Spinach Day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for heaven's sake!

What do they mean? I only loved my mother on one day? Or I am only required to present my wife Kitty with a symbol of my endearment on Feb. 14?
Somehow we started to designate months for special observation. We have Prostate Month, Black History Month, Breast Cancer Month,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], etc., etc.; soon we are out of months, so we go back to smaller units of time: Secretary's Day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], also Save the Seals, Pizzas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Icebergs - so many in fact a few days have to share with more than one subject.

Where are the people I mentioned before,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the chaps in charge of all this? What happens if a certain day is named after a disease and that disease is suddenly cured? Or if a person has 24 hours named for them and then is found to have done inappropriate things while a scout leader; can they take that back? Or what happens when some food that is celebrated is found through breakthrough research to be lethal?
This we believe to be another case of overdoing something once thought to be beneficial. At the club we call this the Law of Salt - a substance that at one time mankind could barely get enough of has turned on us and is devastating the world today,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Not too many years ago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a few shops called Wellness Centres opened,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which I guess is a cute way of saying they had something to do with one's health. Now, however, there are thousands of these centres, often attached to something that does not seem like a fellow traveller: Barb's Nail Salon and Wellness Centre, the House of Jewellers and Wellness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Chinese Soup and Wellness Noodles. It is an overused term and should now be dropped from view.
On another subject, I have become interested in the Liberal leadership race and I wonder if anyone else is. Until a few weeks ago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like most people, I could not have cared less,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I have begun to think that perhaps this convention might make Canada appear less boring to the world than normal.
Where else on this planet would one find a candidate running against his father's mistress, who also had the said father's daughter or the other candidate's step-sister? It is fantastic.
Here we have Justin Trudeau campaigning against Deborah Coyne and everyone is keeping a straight face,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which to our club's point of view is the height of sophistication.
