Black dogs are so unpopular in Saskatchewan, they're being sent to British Columbia for a better chance of being adopted.
Debbi Lehner, manager of the Prince Albert SPCA in Saskatchewan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], says black dogs are often passed over for adoption in favour of lighter-coloured animals.
It's believed some potential owners might find lighter-coloured dogs more attractive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Three more dogs are on their way today and another three are scheduled to travel next week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The animals are transported by air with the help of Air Angels, a group of 200 Westjet employees who use their employee travel benefits and their days off to escort rescued dogs and cats across the country.
"We are just so delighted that they have taken these dogs, these dogs have been here the longest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Lehner.
"They have their own individual personalities. Their uniqueness is no different from your little white poodles or your black and tan shepherds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
The SPCA says potential pet owners should base their decisions on the temperament of the animal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], rather than on colour and looks.

Even though he is a gentle and timid dog,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the fact that he is big, black and wolf-like in appearance has made most people who saw him or came into contact with him nervous. I could confidently walk with him anywhere, at any time of the day or night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because people gave him a lot of respect and a wide berth simply because of how he looked.

Luckily, there was a happy family who wanted to adopt him from one of the islands who had a farm where the dog would be well looked after and the farm to roam around on during his retirement years.
