Oz pushes viewers to shed the pounds
The media-savvy cardiologist who got his TV start as a frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show and is in the second season of his own,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], The Dr. Oz Show, will start the New Year by putting his viewers on his "Move It and Lose It" 11-week challenge. He said he wanted to get "folks to understand how almost all the heart surgery that I was doing and I still do, unfortunately, is avoidable, that much of it is driven by lifestyles that cause chronic illnesses that corrode away the inside arteries of the body."

THINK LONG-TERM: Oz said many people who start highly structured diets fail because once you've slipped up, you're done for the day. "You want to be on a program where you can make a mistake at 10 in the morning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and you're back on the program by 10:15. That's the key to a long-term diet that's successful."
BE ASSERTIVE: If overeating is an addictive behavior, train yourself and others to your new lifestyle. "If my mom brings me over some baklava," Oz said, "I have to say 'Mom,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I love you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I don't want the baklava right now because it's not good for me. I won't feel good after I eat it.'"
BUILD A COMMUNITY: Find others who will diet and exercise with you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He suggested swapping sneakers with your walking pal so you know you'll both show up for your walks.
CONNECT: Create new friendships and personal relationships or strengthen the ones you already have. "You have to have a reason for your heart to keep beating, or it won't,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
TAME YOUR EMOTIONS: Oz said that in his book You on a Diet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he didn't adequately address the issue of people who "eat because they feel an emptiness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a loneliness inside of them." His show won't make that same mistake,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he said. Each Monday will include handling challenges, including the emotional side of eating.
