A step backward for Imelda's shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Termites,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], storms and neglect have damaged part of Imelda Marcos' legendary collection of shoes and other possessions.
Hundreds of pieces of former President Ferdinand Marcos' clothing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including the native see-through barong shirts he wore during his two-decade rule,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], have also begun to gather mold and fray after being stored for years without protection at the presidential palace and later at Manila's National Museum,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], officials said.
The Marcoses fled the Philippines in 1986 at the climax of an army-backed "people power" revolt. Ferdinand Marcos died in exile in Hawaii in 1989,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and his widow and children returned home years later.
They left behind staggering amounts of personal belongings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], clothes and art objects at the palace,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including at least 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],220 pairs of Imelda Marcos' shoes.
More than 150 cartons of clothes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dress accessories and shoes of the Marcoses were transferred to the National Museum for safekeeping two years ago after termites,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], humidity and mold threatened the apparel at the riverside palace. They deteriorated further at the museum after the fragile boxes were abandoned in a padlocked hall with no special protection. Last month tropical rains leaked through the ceiling,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], causing further damage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], museum officials said.
Warhols find home at Windsor Castle
Britain's Royal Collection Trust has gone Pop Art with the purchase of four famous Andy Warhol portraits of Queen Elizabeth. The colorful screenprints are based on a formal photograph of the queen that was used during her Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. They will form part of the "Portraits of a Monarch" exhibit starting in November at Windsor Castle. The purchase was announced Monday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the price was undisclosed.
A SHOCKER: Magician-daredevil David Blaine is returning to New York City on Oct. 5 for a three-day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], three-night stunt called "Electrified: One Million Volts Always On." It will be streamed live. A trailer for the stunt shows the 39-year-old endurance artist wearing a futuristic-looking bodysuit in between two electrical conductors. Blaine's last stunt was hanging upside down without a net high over New York's Central Park for 60 hours in 2008. But the grand finale of the "Dive of Death" stunt didn't go according to plan.
