Brookfield class turns bodies into works of art
There are many different forms of art. Painting, music, photography and sculpture are just a few. If you think about it, the human body is a work of art.
And,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to that note, some people in Brookfield are turning their bodies into works of art with a program called "The Art of Strength Training" at Anytime Fitness on Federal Road.
"I started it in January and it totally changed the way I work out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of Danbury. "I was just doing normal weights and cardio work, but, with this class, it's a challenge every time you do it. You're doing leg work,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], plyometric jumps, kettlebells (circular weights with handles) and everything to burn calories at a higher rate."
Fiege's waist size went from a 36 to a 32.
"If you want to lose weight, it's quick," he added.
The class uses old-fashioned barbells,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], medicine balls and ropes. The equipment is combined with timed intense intervals.
Brookfield resident saw the great results and went on to become an instructor.
"The kettlebells totally changed my body," she explained. "I was not getting results and I had 10 pounds to lose. Now, I'm in the best condition of my life."
Furniss is a nurse and has seen the benefits of the class on the medical side.
"My blood pressure and cholesterol have both gone down," she said. "I see people getting stronger and it's rewarding."
The training room's design and paint scheme makes you want to work out.
"You put on muscle right away and with a group class, it motivates you," Furniss added.
Before your first class,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the instructor completes an assessment to evaluate any limitations or injuries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and to teach you the basics of the class.
Brookfield resident became an instructor after seeing results.
"I literally lost 40 pounds in a matter of months," she said. "The training targets your backside and I find it's very specific for the thighs and back of the legs. It gets your rear end bubbly and tight."
Norkowski also likes the timed intervals and intense pace,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"You are in constant motion, which gets your endurance up. Your muscles are tired and you're breathing heavy for cardio," she said.
One class offered in the series is called "Smoking Ladder." It includes six rounds of different exercises, with little rest and increased weights.
"I've seen men lean down and women get toned and defined," added Norkowski. "People look in the room (when we are doing the class) and I say you have to try it to see how hard it can be."
Member Al Day of Danbury said he has seen the class and sees the intensity.
"I haven't tried it yet, but I can see that it's all about the core,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Day said.
The training is offered to members of Anytime Fitness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as well as for non-member training sessions. The motto of the class is "Work out Loud." It's the only way to do it!
