Motorcycle Racing Suits
This is the last in this series of 6 articles regarding how to buy good motorcycle gear. There'll be more. This article is likely to offer many ways on what gear a rider needs for his or her first track day. When you own a sportbike,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you'll eventually want to go to the closest motorcycle road racing track or dragstrip and see what the bike will do. An added benefit ought to be that the rider's riding skills will improve.
By now you should have the basics in riding gear. You realize, a great helmet, excellent gloves, a textile and or leather jacket and proper riding boots. You've substantial "seat time" on the street. You now realize all of the dangers you will find out there on public roads. That's right. All the other "cagers" you see in the pub wish to kill you. It seems like it anyway, doesn't it?
The track is a much safer place to explore the rider's and motorcycle's limits. It is a closed course. The track surface is generally very smooth and consistent. There is excellent traction even just in the rain. The other bikes have passed a tech inspection. There are emergency vehicles available to take you on a hospital ride as needed.
Greater than a couple novice track day riders crash. Most are simple lowsides, but some crashes can be severe because speeds are high. Should you choose your first track day on a Saturday or Sunday, You'll definitely see crashes. Please guarantee the next crash isn't YOU.
Well, the track management requires a full set of leathers. It's for insurance purposes and it is just good sense. You need a full face helmet with face shield, leather race gloves, high-top leather race boots and either a 1-piece or 2-piece leather racing suit. The 2-piece suit will be required to have a full circumference zipper at the jacket and pants connection.
There's usually a very limited quantity of used gear available for rental at road racing tracks. There won't be any rental gear offered at the drag strip. Please buy some quality gear prior to you heading to the track. All make use of this same gear in the pub. When you ride in a 1-piece suit, you will feel almost invincible. Don't believe it though. Hesitate of the bike and what it can perform for you. It may kill you in a second.
This is often a problem. Very few retailers stock racing leathers. It's a specialized product. You need to have enough room within the suit to maneuver. You'll be moving laterally about the seat. There needs to be a little extra room for a good back protection system. These back protectors can be used with a chest plate for further protection.
You might want to put on several suits. Find good quality online stores. Talk to them personally about the phone. They'll give you excellent advice. You maybe in a position to work out an offer on shipping a tracksuit backwards and forwards several times until you obtain the right size.
Try the suit on with all your gear before you decide to finally decide,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. This will be significant. Consider wearing the suit throughout the house during their visit to interrupt it in. Some new suit owners even shower using the suit on to loosen up quicker. I'll leave this for your personal judgement.
A one-piece suit is a touch safer. You can get by after some lower quality suit should you pick a one piece suit. The 1-piece suit doesn't make a very good piece of gear for casual street riding or the group ride. Wiggling in and out of a 1-piece suit at restroom stops and lunch breaks is really a PITA if you ask me. I purchased a 1-piece suit first because I thought that was I needed.
I did a few track days after the 1-piece purchase. I had a great time and came back successfully. I'm not the fastest track rider. I recieve passed on a regular basis. The track is 250 miles from my house. Track days are costly. I usually go with a small group. I'm interested in having a good time and riding with my pals than trying to set a track record.
I ended up buying a nice 2-piece suit soon after the 1-piece purchase. A one piece works better for me when it is cooler outside or on those "no limits" rides. The one-piece fits us a little more snug using the Knox back protector and chest plate. I ride in the 2-piece on most mod-paced rides. I wear the jacket/jeans combo on slow rides. Slow rides can be just as fun. The slow rides always enhance a large number of riders and I reach make new friends.
Consensus says to buy a mid-priced suit for the first race suit. You ought to be able to find something from the low of $800.00 to maybe $1,200.00. The seams may split whenever you crash. The leather may burn through during a long slide on the tarmac. The colors may fade. Tip: purchase a predominantly black suit for the first. It will be easier to market.
For the first track suit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], get traditional cowhide. Find a manufacturer which makes something which fits you. take a look at a mid-priced Alpinestars. Also look at the Teknic brand,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Joe Rocket and Icon. I have seen the outcomes of the Frank Thomas entry level suit following a crash. The suit didn't do too well. I'll let it rest at that.
The greater you spend on a suit the longer it'll last. A top quality one-piece suit is going to cost two to three thousand dollars. Custom tailored suits with custom graphics can easily add another $1,500. The high-end suit will survive multiple crashes. The rider suited up in the photo is wearing an RS Taichi GP-Max R072. The retail is $2,500.
The suit can be delivered back to the manufacturer for repairs and recoloring. The armor is going to be top quality,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. You will see double stitching and multiple layers of leather in high wear areas. Body will be better. The graphics maybe silk-screened,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The stretch panels will be made of only the best materials,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
You will actually get less fatigued in a high end suit that's fully perfed. Race suits have removable liners and built-in armor that maybe moved around to fit your body better. An inner wind-breaker suit could be worn within the perfed race suit to reduce on the wind blast whether it's just a little cooler outside.
Cowhide is the most popular material for sportbike track suits. Cow leather comes in different thicknesses too. Vansonleathers makes a thick black competition weight leather. It features a unique sheen. Dianese has their special D-Skin leather,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. RS Taichi has supple but quite strong Japanese 1.5mm thick cowhide. My next one-piece suit will an RS Taichi. I have a much it forever.
Kangaroo leather is extremely popular with road racers. It's lighter than cowhide and perhaps just a little stronger and tear resistant. It isn't as comfortable to crash in if that makers sense at all. Roo leather costs a little more also,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
What's your flavor of motorcycle racing?
Drag racing is becoming increasingly popular with sportbike riders. Today's bikes are so fast. It's not hard to enter the 10's or 11's within the quarter mile. it costs much more to get this done in a vehicle. Well, for the most part. Course the faster you want to go the more it costs. You will need full leathers should you run fast. Seek advice from the local track to determine exactly what the gear requirements are.
We've kind of covered road racing already. It is really an extremely dangerous sport. Even us lowly track day riders can reach speeds of 165 mph or even more throughout a session at the track. Personally, i tape over my speedo in the track. I don't want to understand how fast I'm going. I'm listening to motor's revs so I'll know when to shift. All I'm able to think about is accelerating for the next corner marker. I hope I don't notice a red oil light flashing about the gauges. That flashing red would suck.
The pro riders at the highest levels can reach speed well over 200 mph in MotoGP. They are doing 180 in the rain. The bikes are so light and have a lot power that electronics are necessary to keep the bikes in check. The riders are small in stature too. The quickest riders are under 5'-6" tall and weigh less than 135 lbs.
This style of racing is really a cross between motocross and road racing. It's a shorter track comprised of dirt and asphalt. There are hills and obstacles. The riders spend a lot of time drifting the trunk result in the corners. You will see the riders bracing the bike in the corners by sticking their leg out just like in motocross racing. A super moto track suit consists of leather and cordura.
Is stunting racing? I don't know. It requires a lot of skill to manage a sportbike at those low speeds. Some of the stuff the stunters can perform is amazing. I wonder how often these riders have crashed learning their trade. I see too many young stunters wearing very little gear at all. Funny, the riders on television wear full gear. Maybe the brand new stunters will wise up.
Haven't you figured this out yet? You'll never be completed with buying motorcycle gear. As long as you're within the sport, You will always be searching for go fast parts for your bike or any other cool piece of gear. Maybe your partner will understand. Have fun with that. Is golf a far more expensive sport? I'm not sure. You know me.
So now you have your first track suit and perhaps you've experienced your first track day. You've come a long way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], have you not? I hope these 6 articles have helped a little in buying good motorcycle riding gear. If you felt a few of these tips were good, pass them on. I'm not sure what it is concerning the motorcycle hobby, but I'm totally hooked on it for a lifetime.
