The race,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Run For Immokalee 5K,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was hosted by First Baptist Church Naples SportsOutreach Saturday, April 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], at First Baptist Church Naples on Orange Blossom Drive. The registration fee was one new pair of children's shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], preferably in the pre-K to fifth grade range.
Baker said she was "so excited" that more than 160 people attended Saturday's race and by the look of car loads full of shoes, she exceeded her goal there too. She had a little help along the way from teachers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], coaches and family and was unanimously described as "just incredible."
She saw the need for children's shoes during her many visits to Immokalee with Families in Kingdom Service,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a nonprofit organization that her mother,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jinny Baker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], co-founded seven years ago.
