PHOENIX,[url=http://www.pachasvip.com]hollister outlet[/url], June 15 () -- A 91-year-old Arizona man set a new weightlifting record for his age group this week by bench-pressing 187.2 pounds.Sy Perlis of Surprise broke the previous record for the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters of 135 pounds set in 2005.The feat of strength was accomplished Saturday at the association's national championships in Phoenix."We have had a lot of lifters in their middle 80s, late 80s and occasionally we get one 90 and over, but they've never inspired people (like Perlis has)," said event organizers Gus Rethwisch.Perlis began lifting seriously at age 60 and was a world titlist in the 181-pound division in 2010 and 2011."It gave me the opportunity to do something to test myself for one thing, and I didn't have to run around to do it, as you would in some other sports," Perlis said. |
