Joseph Joe Cameron
Mr Joseph Cameron, giuseppe zanotti pumps, 16 St Mary's Crescent, Westport, who has died following a brief illness, was one of the West of Ireland's best-known shoemakers.
A native of Westport, he was aged 83 years and plied his craft until he was 80 years old. Joe,roger vivier sandals, as he was popularly known, was something of a legend in his home town, not just because of his skills and length of service to the local community, but because of his gentleness and courtesy to everyone he met.
He was a quiet and unassuming man, devoted to his family. He never sought the limelight but was occasionally thrust into it because of his craftsmanship and a working career that spanned almost 70 years.
Family apart, his greatest passions in life were his work and talking to people about 'auld times' in Westport and especially on Peter Street where he lived during his early years. An easygoing man, he was never one to complain and took life's ups and downs in his stride. The Camerons were an old and very highly-respected family in Westport. In 1944 he commenced his career in the Westport Clog Factory and went on from there to serve his shoemaking apprenticeship with the late Tim Sullivan at James Street, Westport. He also worked for a time with renowned shoemakers, Tuttys, in Naas, County Kildare.
He then decided to set up on his own at High Street, Westport, later moving to the Octagon, where he continued working until after his 80th birthday. Any hopes he may have nourished of moving quietly into retirement were dashed when he was featured in local and national print and broadcast media, a Westport man who truly earned the title of legend.
In business Joe had a well-deserved reputation for honesty and integrity. If a pair of shoes wasn't worth repairing Joe made a point of telling the owner even though it meant a loss of income to himself. He also told customers in advance what the job would cost, something that they very much appreciated.
But,Peuterey men, perhaps, most of all he will be remembered as a self-effacing and unpretentious gentleman, proud of his roots, his family, his work and his community.
His recreational interests were simple enough, reading, doing crosswords and watching old Irish and Western movies. He was very interested in old Irish traditions and crafts and loved to visit historic places of interest.
Predeceased by several of his siblings, giuseppe zanotti pumps, he will be very sadly missed by his wife Carmel (nee Walsh), son Noel (16 St Mary's Crescent, Westport), daughters Marion O'Malley (Sandyhill, Westport), Phil Smith (Upper Quay, roger vivier heels, Westport), sister Mary Mee (St Bridget's Crescent, Castlebar), sons-in-law Joe O'Malley, Ger Smith and Eddie Scahill, seven grandchildren to whom he was a much-loved and respected grandad, roger vivier online, nieces and nephews, jordans shoes for sale, brother-in-law former Mayor of Castlebar, retired Councillor Johnny Mee, sister-in-law Winnie Cameron (St Mary's Crescent, Westport), the Walsh family (Revenue Row,parajumpers outlet store, Westport Quay), other relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Following repose at Navin's Funeral Home, roger vivier heels, Westport, removal took place to St Mary's Church, Westport, where Fr Francis Mitchell officiated at the reception ceremony.
The concelebrants of Joe's Funeral Mass were Fr Francis Mitchell and Fr Michael Farragher,Peuterey Jacket uk, Castlebar. Family members took part in the liturgy, reading the lessons and prayers of the faithful and bringing the gifts to the altar.
In his homily Fr Mitchell spoke of Joe's quiet and unassuming nature. He was a man completely without guile who loved his native place and lived for his family and his work. The respect he enjoyed in the local community was evident from the many tributes paid to him after the sad news of his death became known. Fr Mitchell extended the sympathy of the priests and people of the parish to Joe's wife, son, daughters, sister and extended family on their sad loss. Joe was laid to rest in Aughavale Cemetery. May his kind and decent soul have peaceful rest. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
